Refusing Fear

I don't know about you, but for me, reading the news, watching the news, being immersed day in and day out in it is just depressing.

Good news never makes it to the news. It's always bad, shocking, disturbing, or horrific.

Every channel and site sells fear. Fear about our country. Fear about the world. Fear about your children. Fear about your person and health. Fear about Grandma. Fear about the planet. Fear about sea levels. Fear about sea lions. Fear, FEAR, FEAR!

So I don't buy it.

I don't necessarily want to be uninformed; I'm just fine reading bullet points instead of an entire story, and that is at a rate of about once per week. Otherwise, I'm in a perpetual state of depression, anger, and fright.

God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)

I'm also reminded constantly of the verse which says that:

As long as the Earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night will not cease. (Genesis 8:22)

So man cannot destroy the Earth? Our CO2 levels aren't destroying the planet (they're actually necessary for all of nature)? We can't stop the seasons? We can't pull the Earth out of orbit? We cannot force the rain, sunshine, temperature, or wind patterns at will? How about the tides? Can we control those?

Nope.

God controls all that. We don't. We live on a planet big enough for every person and animal. We're not going to run out of resources.

Just to be clear, I think being a good steward of resources is wise; I just will not live in the fear of perpetual doom and gloom that's marketed on every single channel and website. .

One final thought:

Ecclesiastes 12:13 says to fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.
